Bergamo - How to get around
By Car
All around the lower town shopping area (largo Belotti, via XX Settembre, largo Rezzara, via Sant’Alessandro) traffic is restricted; in the upper town the traffic is restricted almost everywhere. The medieval Bergamo can’t be reached by car on Sunday afternoon (from 2pm to 5.30pm in winter time) and from 10am to 12am/2pm to 7pm in summer time) and on Friday and Saturday nights (from 7pm to 1am in summer time).
Parking
Free parking places are available along the road of the Walls in the upper town. At the end of that road there are two pay parking. In the lower town free parking areas are those of the piazzale della Malpensata (Tuesday to Sunday) and football stadium. The main pay parking are in via Zelasco and via Verdi.
By Public Transports
ATB (the Public Transports local Company) manages a complete network of buses and the two Funiculars of Città Alta and San Vigilio. Line 1 connects the train station with the Funicular and the upper town. You can buy a daily ticket.
Cycling
There are few bike lanes in town: they go through via Tasso and via Borgo Palazzo. Outside town there are 18 cycle paths of about 20 kilometers each.
